The Share Collective
Committed to supporting and enabling business generosity and funding positive change.
Share Collective is a unique opportunity to make a strategic and positive impact in Aotearoa by donating unlisted shares to support values-aligned charitable projects.
Donated shares are held in a charitable portfolio and funds derived from dividends or a company sale will be used to contribute to our three priority impact areas:
projects focused on increasing equity
environmental action
activities that grow business generosity in Aotearoa New Zealand.
To date there has effectively been no way for founders and investors in early stage unlisted companies to directly support the philanthropic sector. Further, and unlike other jurisdictions internationally, New Zealand policy settings do not encourage or incentivise donations of real assets to philanthropies.
This is the gap that Share Collective fills.
How it works
All unlisted shares donated to Share Collective are held in a separate portfolio on the Seed The Change balance sheet, and any resulting funds will only be used for the purposes outlined above, to cover the minimal operating expenses, and to advocate for a review of the policy settings relating to real asset donations. Donors are able to choose which impact area they would like revenue generated from their donation to be focused on.
We encourage donors to be bold in their generosity; for early-stage businesses we recommend donating 1% of total business equity. Whilst we accept donations of any size, we recommend share transfers of NZ$500 or more.
Companies, founders and individual investors now have the opportunity to gift shares, and join like-minded leaders supporting positive impact for people and planet. Most importantly, this innovative approach to giving means that you know that the profits generated from your donated shares will be applied strategically for the greatest impact on long-term positive change in Aotearoa.
How we give
We will be looking to partner with organisations that have ambitious goals and clear strategies to generate impact. From time to time we will also provide funds to projects that aim to increase business generosity within Aotearoa New Zealand.
Join us!
Seed The Change is very pleased to make its existing organisational arrangements available to Share Collective, so as to minimise the operating costs in the establishment phase and maximise the benefits ultimately distributed. We are such fans that we have also provided seed funding to cover setup costs, and have donated shares from our own values-aligned early stage holdings into the Share Collective portfolio.
We are now enthusiastically inviting others to do the same!
Drop us a line at abc@def if you would like to learn more, if you or someone you know have shares that you would like to donate, and/or if you would like to contribute to the operational costs while the fund is reaching critical mass. Further information is also available on the Share Collective website.
