Embedding our purpose, our first year.

At Seed the Change | He Kākano Hāpai we’ve just completed our first financial year, and our first Performance Report. We’re looking to use all aspects of our profit and loss and balance sheet to further our charitable purpose. Here’s a snap shot of our activities…

As this was our first financial year our focus was required on the set up of organisational infrastructure, systems and processes. This included the banking, asset management, financial systems, website and social media presence. During the process of set-up we actively sought out financial institutions that are aligned to our positive screening approach.

We use our voice and shareholder activism to promote a sustainable world. We have taken steps to divest our share portfolio from companies that are destructive to the environment or otherwise damaging to society. We use our share portfolio to actively invest in renewable, sustainable entities, so that our balance sheet also supports our charitable objects. We encourage others to do the same.

In our role as a grant-seeker we have utilised our organisational infrastructure to incubate early stage projects. STC|HKH provides seed support, and seeks additional funders to align and further the work of these projects.

We began supporting aligned projects in the fields of equitable, sustainable and joyous endeavours. A significant amount of time and support was given to incubate the Hep C Action Aotearoa project.

During the year Seed the Change | He Kākano Hāpai has supported Hep C Action Aotearoa to bring about health equality by forming a team representing patient voices in the hepatitis elimination campaign. $34,789 of resources have been applied to support this project, along with hundreds of voluntary hours.

Drinkable Rivers, a Christchurch based project, seeks to bring about systemic change in land use and waterway management to improve water quality. $15,269 of resources have been gifted to this early stage project.

Our intention is to incubate these early stage projects, providing organisational infrastructure (that we have carefully invested in) for the projects’ use, saving them the time and energy from doing so, therefore allowing them to focus on their core business.
